A handcrafted 108-bead Ritual Mala created for magical practices centered upon shadow work, self-examination, confronting hidden patterns, acknowledging difficult truths, and integrating the parts of ourselves we may prefer to leave unexplored. Featuring Picasso jasper, African sandalwood, obsidian, gray glass seed beads, silver-colored metal accents, an ornate metal guru bead, an original freehand-burned Shadow Work Seal, and a silver-gray tassel with coordinated bead fall, this piece adapts the traditional counting structure of the mala for contemporary magical practice.

Designed to be worked one bead at a time, each of the 108 counting beads may accompany a prayer, petition, mantra, affirmation, or focused intention.

The 108-Bead Structure

The mala contains 108 counting beads, preserving the traditional numerical structure of a full mala. The strand combines 8mm Picasso jasper and 8mm African sandalwood with 6mm obsidian. The naturally varied black, gray, cream, and muted earth tones of the Picasso jasper create shifting patterns throughout the strand, contrasted by the deep black of the obsidian and warmth of the sandalwood. Gray glass seed beads provide rhythm and separation throughout the Picasso jasper sections, while silver-colored metal accents create additional focal points and definition within the counting structure.

The Shadow Work Seal

Beneath the metal guru bead hangs an individually freehand-burned wooden Seal depicting an inward-moving spiral. The spiral represents deliberate movement beneath the surface and into the interior self, reflecting the process of turning inward to examine what has been hidden, avoided, suppressed, or left unexplored.

Rather than treating the shadow as something to be destroyed or cast away, the Seal reflects shadow work as a process of recognition, understanding, and integration. The inward path represents the willingness to encounter what lies beneath familiar perceptions of the self and to engage with it consciously.

The Seal is an original element of this Ritual Mala design and is not a traditional component of mala construction. It was created entirely freehand without tracing, engraving, laser equipment, or mechanical reproduction.

Numerological Structure

This mala incorporates a foundation of 7 within its 108-bead structure. Within this practice, seven carries associations with Air, intuition, contemplation, seeking, and looking beyond what is immediately apparent. Picasso jasper and African sandalwood are deliberately arranged in recurring groups of seven throughout the strand.

For the Shadow Work current, seven reinforces the process of looking beneath surface understanding, questioning familiar perceptions, and bringing greater awareness to aspects of the self that may normally remain outside conscious attention.

Working With Your Ritual Mala

Begin with the first counting bead beside the guru bead and move through the strand one bead at a time. Each bead may accompany the repetition of a prayer, petition, mantra, affirmation, visualization, question, or focused intention. Upon returning to the guru bead, one complete cycle of 108 has been worked. Work one cycle or several.

For shadow work, the mala may also be used to maintain a deliberate rhythm during journaling, meditation, contemplation, or other practices of self-examination. It may be carried, worn, placed upon an altar, or kept within a sacred space when not actively in use.

This Ritual Mala was individually handcrafted and will be ritually blessed before leaving the studio. As a one-of-a-kind piece, this exact combination of materials, bead arrangement, metal components, and freehand artwork will not be recreated.

• The Shadow Work Seal is natural wood featuring entirely freehand-burned artwork.
• Natural Picasso jasper varies considerably in color, pattern, and markings. Individual beads within this piece range through gray, black, cream, and muted natural tones, with the distinctive lines and striations characteristic of the material.
• Natural stone and wood carry individual variations in color, grain, pattern, and finish.
• Wear over time is expected with natural materials. Should the cord eventually give under long-term use, this is considered part of the piece's natural lifecycle. Rebuilding services are available if you would like the piece restrung and returned to working condition.
• Colors may vary slightly from photos or videos due to lighting and monitor settings.
