One of a kind. This piece will not be recreated in this exact form.

Created around the meeting of land and sea, these Ritual Beads explore the relationship between solid ground and open water: the places we leave behind, the journeys we undertake, and the paths that carry us between them. Hand-looped using the traditional five-decade rosary structure as a foundation, the piece brings together natural materials associated with earth, water, movement, endurance, and the changing landscapes encountered along the way.

Petrified wood and rosewood establish the grounding presence of land, while marine agate, flowery cowry fossil, aquamarine, and angelite carry the palette toward shore, water, and open sky. Rather than representing land and sea as opposing forces, the materials move throughout the strand together, reflecting the places where one gives way to the other and the continual relationship between stability and movement.

The Work This Piece Supports

  • Ritual and meditation centered on journeys, transitions, and personal direction
  • Grounding while navigating periods of movement or change
  • Work connected with land, sea, shorelines, and the natural world
  • Reflection upon where one has been and where one's path is leading
  • Practices centered on adaptability, endurance, and moving through uncertainty
  • Devotional or spiritual work connected with travel, passage, or the sea
  • Repetitive prayer, petition, mantra, affirmation, or focused intention according to one's individual practice

The Connector and Ship

At the meeting point of the strand rests a silver-colored metal connector set with a clear resin cabochon. Beneath the cabochon, genuine jingle shell fragments have been individually arranged within the setting. Their shifting pearlescent surfaces form an abstract scene reminiscent of sea mist, gathering clouds, stormlight, and the indistinct horizon where water and sky seem to merge.

Because the image is created from real shell rather than painted or printed imagery, its appearance shifts subtly with the angle and light. The irregularity of the fragments is intentionally preserved, allowing the natural material itself to create the landscape.

Suspended beneath the connector is a silver-colored metal ship charm representing passage, exploration, movement, and the journey between familiar shores and what lies beyond. Positioned beneath the shell-filled horizon, it completes the movement of the piece from land toward open water and the continual passage between the two.

Sacred Materials

  • Petrified Wood: grounding, endurance, ancient wisdom, patience, and connection with the earth
  • Marine Agate: balance, grounding, adaptability, and symbolic connection with the movement and rhythms of water
  • Flowery Cowry Fossil: ancient life, continuity, transformation, memory, and connection with the sea
  • Aquamarine: water, clarity, calm, courage, safe passage, and longstanding associations with sailors and the sea
  • Angelite: peace, spiritual awareness, tranquility, communication, and the expansive symbolism of sky
  • Rosewood: grounding, warmth, stability, and traditional craftsmanship
  • Jingle Shell: shoreline, water, natural cycles, movement, and the meeting of land and sea
  • Silver-Colored Metal Ship Charm: journey, passage, exploration, and movement between shores
  • 304 Stainless Steel: durability, strength, and the structural foundation of the individually hand-looped beadwork

Ritual Structure

These Ritual Beads follow the traditional five-decade arrangement found in rosary construction, adapted here as a structure for contemporary ritual use rather than a prescribed religious practice.

Each bead has been individually connected by hand using 304 stainless steel. The linked construction creates natural divisions throughout the strand that may be used for repetitive prayer, petitions, mantras, affirmations, meditation, breath work, or other forms of counted spiritual practice.

There is no prescribed method for working with these Ritual Beads. The structure is provided as a framework and may be adapted according to the traditions, beliefs, and practices of the person working with them.

Ritual Applications

  • Held or moved through bead by bead during meditation or focused ritual work
  • Used for repetitive prayer, petition, mantra, affirmation, or intention
  • Incorporated into workings involving travel, transition, direction, or personal journeys
  • Used in spiritual practices connected with land, sea, shorelines, or natural forces
  • Placed upon an altar as a representation of passage, exploration, or the relationship between earth and water
  • Carried or displayed as a reminder of one's path and the ability to continue moving through changing conditions
  • Incorporated into personal devotional practice according to individual tradition

Best suited for intentional use rather than casual daily wear due to its length, linked construction, and structure.

Dimensions

  • Neck loop (one side): approximately 19 inches
  • Full hanging length: approximately 24 inches

Handcrafted and Consecrated

This piece is entirely one of a kind and will not be recreated in this exact form. Each bead was individually hand-looped and connected using 304 stainless steel, creating the strand one link at a time. The jingle shell fragments within the connector were individually arranged by hand beneath the resin cabochon, making the resulting abstract landscape unique to this piece.

Natural variation in stone, fossil material, wood grain, shell, coloration, pattern, and surface character is part of the piece's individual identity.

This piece will be ritually consecrated using blessed ocean water before leaving my hands, further connecting its preparation to the current of land, sea, passage, and journey carried throughout the work.

Care and Notes

Handle with care to preserve the longevity of the hand-looped connections, beads, connector, and charm. Treat this as a handcrafted ritual object rather than a heavy-duty piece. Wear over time is expected with natural materials and handmade components.

Avoid prolonged exposure to water, chemicals, perfumes, oils, or excessive moisture. Store carefully when not in use to prevent unnecessary stress on the individual links and connector.

Colors may vary slightly from photos or videos due to lighting, natural stone and fossil variation, wood tone, shell reflection, and monitor settings.
