One of a kind. This piece will not be recreated in this exact form.
A handcrafted 108-bead Ritual Mala created for spirit communication, ancestor work, cemetery practice, remembrance, and grounding. Weathered green and brown crackle agate, sandalwood, black obsidian, and pale howlite skulls give the strand an earthy, timeworn presence. An original freehand-burned Roots Above, Roots Below Seal and black tassel complete this ritual tool for connection across the boundaries of life, death, and sacred ground.
Work the strand one bead at a time. Each of the 108 counting beads may accompany a prayer, petition, invocation, name, question, mantra, or focused intention.

The 108-Bead Structure
This full mala contains 108 counting beads arranged in matte green crackle agate, matte brown crackle agate, sandalwood, 6mm obsidian, and four reconstituted howlite skull beads.
The crackle agate moves through shades of green, brown, ochre, cream, and earth, while sandalwood brings natural warmth to the strand. Four pale skull beads create distinct stations within the cycle. Each is bordered by smaller obsidian beads, setting these points of mortality and remembrance in protective black stone.
Matte black and silver glass seed beads add rhythm and separation, while silver-colored metal accents define points throughout the strand. The counting beads meet beneath an ornate silver-colored metal guru bead, from which the wooden Roots Above, Roots Below Seal and black tassel hang.
The Roots Above, Roots Below Seal
Beneath the guru bead hangs an individually freehand-burned wooden Seal. Two branching forms extend in opposite directions from a central opening, creating a mirrored image of root and branch, above and below, life and death.
A horizontal line of burned points crosses the center, marking the boundary through which the two forms meet. The open circle at their intersection represents connection, a place where what exists above and what rests below remain parts of a continuing relationship.
Within this mala, the Seal speaks to ancestry, burial and return to the earth, continuity between generations, and communication across the boundary between living and dead. Its mirrored growth suggests relationship, recurrence, and what continues beyond an individual life.
The Seal is an original element of this Ritual Mala design, not a traditional component of mala construction. It was created entirely freehand without tracing, engraving, laser equipment, or mechanical reproduction.

Structure and Symbolism
The 108-bead structure is the mala's primary numerical foundation. Four skull stations recur throughout the counting strand, each set among black obsidian and earth-toned materials.
Branch and root mirror one another across the Seal's central boundary, reflecting the relationship between what grows above the earth and what lies beneath it. Together, the weathered stone, natural wood, pale skulls, black obsidian, silver-colored details, and branching Seal create a piece centered on place, remembrance, ancestry, and continued relationship with those who have gone before us.
Working With Your Ritual Mala
Begin with the first counting bead beside the guru bead and move through the strand one bead at a time. Each bead may accompany a prayer, petition, invocation, spirit or ancestor name, question, mantra, or focused intention. Returning to the guru bead completes one cycle of 108.
For spirit or ancestor work, use the mala before contact to establish focus, during repetitive invocation or petition, or afterward for grounding, closing, and reflection. Its current also lends itself to cemetery and graveside practice, ancestor altars, remembrance rites, offerings, and work involving sacred ground. When not actively in use, it may be carried, worn, placed upon an altar, or kept within a sacred space.
